Mileage and fuel rules
Confirm whether mileage is unlimited, how excess mileage is charged and what fuel level the vehicle must be returned with. A cheap daily rate can look different once a long route is added.
Insurance and excess
Read what is included, the security deposit or insurance excess, who is allowed to drive and whether there are age or licence restrictions before paying.
Collection and return
Collection location matters more than it looks. Include the cost and time of getting there, parking your own car, check-in, handover and the return deadline.
What is actually included
Ask about bedding, cooking kit, outdoor furniture, gas, toilet chemicals, levelling equipment and extra-driver fees rather than assuming they are part of the advertised rate.
Where you will stay
A hire vehicle does not automatically mean free overnight parking. Plan campsites, touring pitches and legal overnight stops before the trip so the route works in practice.
Campervan
Better for a lighter touring style
Smaller vans are generally easier on country roads, in towns and for day-to-day driving. The compromise is living space, storage and the amount of bed or seating conversion you may need to do each day.
Motorhome
Better when interior space matters
A motorhome can give you fixed beds, more storage and a more self-contained setup. The trade-off is a larger vehicle to manoeuvre, park and take through narrow rural routes.
